This so far has been one of my biggest challenges, not only meeting new people but running with them too. I'd met a couple of the ladies that go to the club at Park Run so I knew they were friendly but still my anxiety was high.
Not surprisingly, the group were really nice and welcomed me along with them. They actually ran a new route which was nicer for me too as no one had actually ran this route before except the leaders who are both incredibly nice!
We began by doing a warm up run of 1.24 miles down to the river where the main run was to complete laps of the river. Easy I thought but then I heard "Shall we say 6 laps?" Not quite so easy! I was told that I could do less if I wanted but I was not to be defeated. The route was actually quite flat but it was harder than it looked. One of the leaders, Jon, ran alongside me a lot of the way round which was nice and encouraging. Although I'm sure he felt like he was walking at one point!
I completed the 6 laps which was equivalent to 2.4 miles in 30.06 minutes with an average pace of 12'37. My aim for next week when running with the club is to run more of the route and complete it quicker. I not only need to build up my speed but also my mileage so when I feel ready I am going to go onto 7 laps.
This route is around 15 minutes from my house so I may drive there to do my normal runs too!
I'm off to London on Sunday to complete a training day with Macmillan! I'm super excited to meet some of the team and to get some pointers on training plans etc. We're going to be completing a run together too which will be around the centre of London. Very exciting!
